A Casa da Lagoa de Antela Sandiás
- Camino Sanabrés desde Granja de Moreruela / Xinzo de Lima-Allariz
Information
The Antela Lagoon marks a very important memory in our environment. It was one of the most important lagoons in the Iberian Peninsula that was drained in the 60s of the last century to use its land for agricultural purposes.
A sign of its importance was the hundreds of species of birds that lived here throughout the year, as well as its archaeological, landscape, historical and fauna and flora richness.
It was for this reason that an interpretation centre of the Antela Lagoon was created in the town council of Sandiás to show the changes that have taken place since its formation, its drying up until the present day with the recovery of the old sand pits through the historical-economic evolution and the evolution in the way of life. This is done with the aim of revitalising the natural and cultural resources.
In this interpretation centre there are permanent and temporary exhibitions with models and reproductions, audiovisual montages, interactive experiences, signposting and information panels, workshops and educational activities.
The route goes through the Antela Lagoon, learning about the changes that took place between before and after the draining: way of life, agricultural and livestock production, flora and fauna and historical aspects. Then you will learn about the project for the recovery of the sand pits, the process from the extraction of the sand to the recovery process of the abandoned sand pits, and finally, you will learn about the history of the area.
