The Arch of the Giants in Antequera (province of Malaga, Spain) was built on the initiative of the municipality in 1585 as part of the humanist approach to replace a bend in the entrance to the Muslim fence, with its large semicircular archway evoking the triumphal arches of the classical world. The arch, which opens with a wall more than two metres thick, is seven metres high. Its crowning was more spectacular, as it had a large niche, flanked by two aletons, in which there was a huge statue of Hercules. The lily jar on the keystone, as well as the castle and the lion on the cornice, form the city's coat of arms.
