Castillo de Doña Mencía
- Camino Mozárabe desde Málaga / Doña Mencía-Baena
The castle was built in a short space of time, between 1415-18 and 1420, hence the enormous homogeneity of its construction. It has a trapezoidal plan, with circular towers at the corners, a large keep at the eastern end and another tower - now disappeared - at the western end. It is oriented from east to west, like a prow, directly controlling the communication route of the old Metedores road. After the construction of the castle, and next to it, the project for the construction of the church was also undertaken, which originally must have had a very similar formal appearance to the castle, also with a defensive character. Its location, next to the castle and with the same orientation as the castle, clearly explains and responds to the motives that led Diego Fernández de Córdoba to erect it: the creation of an ecclesiastical patronage excluded from the influence of the bishopric of Córdoba.
