Archaeological-historical site of Armea
It is made up of the castro or Cibdá de Armea, the oven of the Saint and the unfinished basilica of the Ascension.
The castro or Cibdá de Armea is located on the top of the hill of Casarellas or Muradellas and is considered to be a Galician-Roman city. ‘O forno da Santa’ is located on the southern slopes of the hill of the Castro and had a thermal use in the Galician-Roman period. It contains an underground Templar crypt, in which there could be remains of a ‘Piedra Formosa’ or pre-Roman oven. Legend has it that it was here that an attempt was made to burn Santa Marina. The unfinished basilica of the Ascension dates from the 6th century. All have been historical-artistic monuments since 1963 and are now classified as BIC.
