The tradition of offering eggs to the Holy Christ of Socorro may date back to the 18th century, during a time of hardship when children often suffered from hunger. The pleading mother saw several eggs she hadn't deposited appear on the bedside table next to the child's bed. This offering healed the child and was attributed to the image.
