The castle of Lebrija is located on the highest point of the town that gives it its name and has thus been dominating the city since its construction during the medieval period. it conserved an important strategic value for the control and defence of the Guadalquivir, during the Muslim domination. the castle was built on a Roman fortress, which together with the wall fulfilled the functions of a fortress, and only visible remains remain, some sections of the wall, and two defensive towers. in 1985 it was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, BIC.
