This large reservoir, through which the path passes, is classified as a protected natural area in Extremadura, as well as a Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA) due to the great biodiversity it contains.
As for the species to be found in this wetland, among the riverside vegetation and gallery forests, it is worth highlighting the presence of the Ñeproso tortoise, as far as reptiles are concerned. Among the fish, the pardilla, the calandino, the barbo comizo, the loach and the boga stand out. As for birds, birds of prey, such as the griffon vulture, Bonelli's eagle and the Egyptian vulture are at the forefront, but this wetland also shelters the black stork and is home to important concentrations of the black-headed gull and black-headed gull.
