Ermida de San Bieito de Uceira
- Camino Sanabrés desde Granja de Moreruela / Xinzo de Lima-Allariz
San Bieito is one of the most avid saints of the region in relation to the sick, the lame and especially for those who have ‘warts and spurs’.
This hermitage, located in the municipality of Sandiás, dates from the mid-17th century and acquired its current appearance in the 18th century. This is known thanks to an inscription on one of the side walls of the chapel: ‘Hicose de limosnas de los devotos de Sano Benito, cordero de 1775’. With the passing of time, alpendres and infrastructures were also built for pilgrims and devotees, in order to celebrate liturgical feasts and meals.
The chapel is Baroque. It has a rectangular, single-nave, gabled roof.
In the same area is the Crucero de la Ermita de San Bieito. It has a pedestal with a quadrangular base. The base of the shaft is square, but then it becomes polygonal and at the base of the capital it is square again. The cross is Latin and on the front it has a crucifix with three nails.
San Bieito de Marzo is celebrated here on Easter Monday and San Bieito de Seitura on the second Sunday in July, in reference to the harvest season. During the pilgrimage festival, legs, arms and bodies made of wax can be seen by people who are grateful to San Bieito. There is also a procession to have lunch in the surroundings after the mass.
