Fiestas Patronales Virgen de los Remedios

On 8 September, the city celebrates the day of the Virgen de los Remedios, Patron Saint of the city and its Perpetual Mayoress, who is carried in procession wearing some of the pieces of jewellery from the extensive and beautiful collection that she preserves. According to legend, the image was brought to Antequera by the apostle Santiago to protect the city from all evils, and from the very first moment the people showed great devotion to it. In 1711 the congregation of the Venerable Slavery of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios was constituted and founded, with the aim of worshipping and extending the devotion to the Holy Virgin de los Remedios.
