Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Anunciación de Alsodux
- Camino Mozárabe desde Almería / Rioja-Alboloduy
The Parish Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción is located at the entrance of the town, very close to the Ermita de las Ánimas, next to the old irrigation channel coming from the fountain of Santa Cruz, this location justifies its construction on the site of the old mosque, as the channel was used for the ritual cleansing of the faithful. The primitive church was burnt down during the bloody Moorish rebellion of 1566 and rebuilt at the beginning of the 17th century by the Duke of Maqueda as part of his noble obligations to the taha of Marchena. Following the typical Mudejar church model of the Alpujarra, it has a single nave, a differentiated main chapel and a four-sided roof with lima bordón framework. The reinforcement of the walls is only one of the many additions and repairs it has undergone. Curious are the drawings on the walls that we can observe with some attention to the outside of the temple.
