IGLESIA DE LA INMACULADA CONCEPCIÓN, FONTANILLAS DE CASTRO

The Church of the Immaculate Conception (18th century), is a single-nave temple with an arm in the transept and a doorway stamped with a JACOBEAN CROSS, as the area was the territory of the first seat of the knights of the Order of Santiago, who helped the first pilgrims.

The belfry is made of rough masonry, with carved ashlars in the corners, which breaks two openings with semicircular arches.

Its main chapel preserves altarpieces that began to be carved in 1762. The main altarpiece presents María Inmaculada, an image that can be carried in procession on the day of the patron saint's day (8th December), and the martyrs San Fabián and San Sebastián, from the 17th century.

The image of Mary Immaculate, which the church honours, is reflected in the painting of the Ánimas, which replaces the Virgin of Carmen with the scapular with the Immaculate with a rosary.

In the chapel there is a curious iconographic group of popular art: Saint Joseph, Saint Anne (with the child Mary) and Saint Joachim, together with a 17th century Mannerist Crucifix and a 19th century image of Saint Anthony the Abbot.
