Iglesia de San Cristóbal
- Vía de la Plata desde Sevilla / San Pedro de Rozados-Salamanca
The Church of San Cristóbal is a temple of medieval origin, founded in 1145 by knights of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. In 1895 the current parish church was inaugurated, built with local materials and reusing elements from the previous one, and was restored between 1985 and 1994, receiving the Europa Nostra Award in 2000 for the protection of the architectural heritage.
It has a single nave built in the 12th century, with later modifications. It conserves Romanesque elements, such as the central apse and part of the plant decoration in the transept, and inside, there is a relief of the Burial of Christ, the work of the sculptor Pedro Hernández, dating from the 17th century.
The church is open exclusively during the days and hours of mass, allowing the faithful and visitors to participate in the liturgy or to enjoy its interior in moments of recollection. Admission is free.
