Iglesia Santa María de la Mesa
- Vía Augusta desde Cádiz / Utrera-Alcalá de Guadaira
Declared a National Historic and Artistic Monument by Decree of 2 February 1979 (BOE of 9 April 1979). Dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin, it is popularly known as Santa María de la Mesa due to the elevation of the land on which it stands.
Structurally, the parish church has a floor plan with five naves divided by pillars, plus open chapels on the sides. The central nave is crowned at the foot with an organ and a large choir with 61 seats and a lectern in the centre. Other interesting rooms are the tabernacle chapel, the sacramental chapel and the sacristy. In the sacristy, the marble table and the Christ of the Broken Ones, a 16th century crucifix, stand out, and above all, in the rectory office, a panel painting of the Madonna and Child by Bernardino Luini (1480-1532), one of Leonardo da Vinci's main disciples.
The central street of the main altar, dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin, depicts three scenes of the Ascension of Saint Mary to heaven. It is the work of Francisco Ballesteros and Martín Moreno around 1660. In the sepulchral crypt, which is located under the nave of the church, important figures from local history are buried.
