Iglesia Vieja

The Old Church is located outside the castle walls and has one of the most beautiful images of the old town of Doña Mencía. Its construction dates back to 1420, and it was later enlarged. Baroque in style, it was destroyed in a fire in 1932 and its site was converted into an ‘Open Air Auditorium’ in 2000. This is the venue for cultural events during the summer season. Nowadays, the doorway and niche attached to the bell tower are preserved, where you can see the stone carving of a crucified Christ.
