In honour of the patron saint of the place, the Virgen de la Antigua, in fact the beginning of these festivities is marked by the arrival of the Virgin to the village, brought in pilgrimage from her hermitage to the church of San Juan Bautista.
It is also worth mentioning that, like many other towns in Extremadura, this one was depopulated by emigration and many of these emigrants return at this time of year, which is why these festivities also become a meeting point for family and friends, which makes them very special.
The week before La Velá there is a cultural week, which is becoming a tradition, where there are festivities and celebrations for children and adults, with different activities, such as the popular paella or the cycling route through the town, which are two of the activities that have taken root most strongly among the population and have a massive participation, without underestimating other activities that are also very popular.
