The Mausoleum of the Viscountess of Termens is a unique funerary monument that holds centuries of history. Located in a setting of great cultural value, the mausoleum is not only a tribute to the nobility, but also a symbol of the city's connection with its past. The Mausoleum of the Viscountess of Termens houses the remains of Doña Carmen Giménez Flores, popularly known as ‘La Infantona’. It is one of the most representative works of the realist artist Mariano Benlliure, which is why it was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest on 23rd March 2023 in the category of Monument. Originally, the mausoleum was located in the municipal cemetery of Cabra, as Carmen Giménez wished to build a pantheon-chapel to house the remains of her family. The work was commissioned in March 1908 from Mariano Benlliure, who received 200,000 pesetas for this work, one of the best-paid commissions of his career. Benlliure lived in Madrid, so he had to move to Cabra, where he completed the sculptural complex in 1914. However, following the creation of the Fundación Escolar Térmens in 1930 by the viscountess, a large part of the mausoleum was dismantled a year later and moved to the Foundation's headquarters, the Niño Jesús special education school, which was inaugurated on 16 July 1934. Since then, the mausoleum has remained there, under the management of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul since its inception.
