This medieval fortress has been declared a site of cultural interest. Its central part, the oldest, was probably built between the 11th and 12th centuries, during the period of splendour of Jewish Lucena. Its initial square-shaped structure has towers at the corners, with the Torre del Moral (Moral Tower) standing out, with an octagonal floor plan and a Baroque roof, with a coat of arms on the outside that gives its name to the fortress. The Torre del Homenaje (Homage Tower) also stands out. From the 16th century the castle was transformed into a residential palace for the Lords of Lucena, the Marquises of Comares, and later became the Palace and Castle of the Medinaceli family. It currently houses the city's Archaeological and Ethnological Museum, with a series of exhibition rooms dealing with the evolution of life on earth, the cultural and physical evolution of human beings, and the evolution of the city of Lucena towards modernity.
