PALACIO DEL CORDÓN - MUSEO DE ZAMORA
The Palacio del Cordón or Palacio de Puñonrostro currently houses the Museum of Zamora.
This palace, one of the most interesting works of civil architecture in Zamora from the early 16th century, together with the neighbouring church of Santa Lucía, is one of the most evocative corners of the old city, and specifically of the district that in medieval times was called ‘La Puebla del Valle’.
The emblazoned house stands out for its noble façade with the superb façade as its most characteristic element, framed like an alfiz by the Franciscan cordon that gives it its name and on the upper part of which are the coats of arms of its owners. The façade is crowned by a cornice of scallops topped by ten gargoyles.
The church of Santa Lucía, which can be visited by the museum, maintains traces of its Romanesque origins on the north wall, as it was considerably altered in the 17th century, the period to which it owes its current configuration.
