This church follows Gothic-Mudejar and Renaissance artistic canons. This was the site of the city's former synagogue and later mosque, until it was adapted for Christian worship in 1240. The present church was begun in 1498, at the chancel, together with the sacristy and the exterior doorways of Our Lady of the Umbria. The rest of the building is Renaissance, with three naves with large pillars supported by pointed arches of Mudejar inspiration, as well as a main doorway with clear classical influences. Inside, the Mannerist main altarpiece stands out, the architectural part of which was designed by Jerónimo Hernández and the imagery by Juan Bautista Vázquez el Viejo. Also outstanding is the magnificent chapel of the Sagrario, built between 1740 and 1772 to designs by the local architect Leonardo Antonio de Castro and considered to be one of the jewels of Cordoba's Baroque style.
