The Church of San Juan Bautista has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (Boja 07/05/2008 Nº 90 P. 60). Grandiose architecture, in Tuscan style, where it houses great sculptural works such as the image of Stmo. Cristo de la Vera-Cruz by the Cordovan artist Juan de Mesa in 1624 (the 400th anniversary will be commemorated in 2024), the canvas located in the baptismal font ‘El Bautismo de Cristo’ by the Sevillian painter Francisco Varela (La pintura española del Siglo de Oro). Complete carving of the Immaculate Conception (18th century) among many others. The church of San Juan Bautista stands out for its great volume, robustness and beauty. It is located in the highest part of the village, on a hill overlooking a wide plain, a place of great strategic importance, which is why it has been inhabited since ancient times and is a decisive element of the locality. Its construction dates back to the 18th century, taking advantage of the economic boom in the area, for which it was necessary to demolish the old Mudejar parish church, which in turn occupied the site of the old castle of the town, and from an architectural point of view it is the most important building in the town, rising above the rest of the village. It is worth highlighting the superimposition of volumes, including the large main façade to which the tower is attached, as well as the gabled roof of the central nave and the transept. The complex is built in brick, masonry and rammed earth. The main chapel has a large neoclassical altarpiece (1798-1802), carved in wood and polychrome imitating marble. It is structured in a body with three aisles separated by pairs of Corinthian columns and a semicircular attic.
