The house where Hernán Cortés was born was in a dilapidated state in the mid-19th century. Intellectuals, such as Carolina Coronado, fought for its restoration, but it finally disappeared due to the lack of interest and inaction of the public authorities in the mid-19th century. Subsequently, the remains of this house and the rest of the block would be destined to occupy the current Plaza de Hernán Cortés.
