The ‘Torre da Pena’ is located in the town hall of Xinzo de Limia. It is approximately 10.30 metres on each side and has a maximum height of 20 metres. It is also known as Torre de la Portela or Torre de la Porteliña. It is in a good state of conservation and despite this, the access door is raised above the ground as a defence strategy, so it is not possible to access the interior without using a ladder.

As with the other towers in the area, its origins date back to the 12th century, when the territory was the subject of territorial clashes between Galicia and Portugal. One of its first lords was Ruy Páez de Biedma in the 14th century. It was abandoned six centuries after its construction, after being taken over by the Duke Lancaster, passing through the hands of the Counts of Monterrei and the Counts of Alba. It remained in good condition until the middle of the 18th century. The judge resided in it and it was used as a prison. After fulfilling this function, it fell into disrepair.

In 2022, excavations and refurbishment work were carried out and a circuit with information panels explaining the main features of the castle was created. The exterior of the castle is free to visit and is easily accessible from the road to the centre of Pena.
