From the top of the village, the Clock Tower dominates the urban fabric, but it did not have any defensive function against possible enemies, as is usually the case, but traditionally served as a clock for the neighbours, when only the wealthy bourgeoisie could afford such a luxury. Traditionally, life was governed by solar time, regulated by the shadow cast on some natural object (a stone or a tree), and in the best cases by a sundial. During the 19th century, public clocks became widespread in church towers or in public buildings dominating the urban fabric, as in this case.
