The Guadalmellato Special Area of Conservation (SAC) is a protected natural area located in the province of Córdoba, Andalusia. Declared in 2015, it covers approximately 40,000 hectares and is part of the Natura 2000 Network. This enclave stands out for its diverse habitats, including dehesas, riparian forests, and Mediterranean scrublands, hosting a rich biodiversity of flora and fauna. It is an ideal place for activities such as hiking, bird watching, and environmental education.
The Guadalmellato Special Protection Area connects several natural areas, with altitudes between 120 and 740 metres. The climate is temperate, with temperatures between 14 and 17 ºC, and a low risk of desertification, except in areas with steep slopes or agricultural activity. Soils such as regosols and lithosols predominate in the area, and the landscape is dominated by holm oak and cork oak forests, transformed by agriculture and livestock farming. In addition, there are areas of scrubland and abandoned crops.
