Site of Geological Interest for its Mesozoic Alterites, known as the Montamarta Facies.
The base on which the Ermita de la Virgen del Castillo Chapel in Montamarta is built is considered, according to the IGME, to be one of the best outcrops of the lower sections that make up the siderolitic series of the western edge of the Duero Basin, whose chronology includes the end of the Upper Cretaceous (Maastrichtian) and the beginning of the Lower Palaeocene.
In this area, the siderolitic materials are discordant with the materials of the Iberian Massif, represented at this point by Lower Ordovician schists and quartzites.
