STAGE: Alcuéscar - Valdesalor
We leave Alcuéscar along the Camino Viejo which leads to Casas de Don Antonio, a village which we reach by crossing the beautiful Roman bridge over the river Ayuela. Although the road does not go into the centre of the village, it is worth visiting its two ‘rollos’ or ‘picotas’ located in the Plaza de España.
We recover the road, which runs parallel to the N-630, as attested by two milestones, one used as part of a stone fence, and the other in its original location. Behind them is the Roman bridge over the Santiago stream, and Aldea del Cano, some five hundred metres from the road, but with the necessary services to be able to divide this long journey.
After a few more milestones, and crossing a flying field and the recovered Roman bridge over the river Salor, the route arrives at Valdesalor, a village of agricultural colonisation that has services for the walker.
Further on, the path passes through the Dehesas del Garabato de arriba and de la Falsa, which takes us through the latter to the airstrip of La Cervera Aerodrome, where members of the Aeroclub Cáceres practise their flights. As a sign informs us, the prohibition of passage does not affect pilgrims. From this point we have 6 km to go to the end of this stage.
