STAGE: Valdesalor - Casar de Cáceres

  • DISTANCE: 22,97 km
  • VILLAGES: 3
  • HOSTING: 5

Leaving Valdesalor and crossing the N-630 with caution, we soon split off to the right away from the road, crossing the motorway over a bridge and returning to the N-630 via a low road. The path now plays with the road as far as the Camellas pass, from where you enter Cáceres via a wide ravine.

This city, declared a World Heritage Site, was founded as a Roman colony and was once the cradle of the Order of the Knights of Santiago. A small pilgrim sculpted in stone above the Pilgrims' Gate of the Church of Santiago is the most Jacobean seal of the historic and beautiful city.

Before leaving Cáceres, we should not miss a stroll through the main square, the arch of the Estrella, the Santa María co-cathedral, the Episcopal palace and the palace of the Golfines, and all the streets and squares of this magnificent city.

We leave the town, passing the bullring, heading towards Casar de Cáceres along the Avenida de las Lavanderas until we reach a roundabout. With great caution on a 3 km stretch that is shared with the CC-38 road, we reach a detour to take the well signposted dirt road that takes us to Casar de Cáceres, famous for its Torta de queso de oveja (sheep's cheese cake).
