STAGE: Guillena - Castiblanco de los Arroyos

  • DISTANCE: 18,71 km
  • VILLAGES: 2
  • HOSTING: 3

Guillena, with its parish church of Mudejar origin dating from the 15th century, bids us farewell next to the Rivera de Huelva river, which we can ford to continue to the milestone and the industrial estate, or cross it by the bridge on the Burguillos road and then take the road. Sometimes the river flows down and it is necessary to use the bridge.

Shortly after the start of the stage, the landscape of olive and orange trees gives way to the mountain pastures, with holm oaks, cork oaks and wild olive trees. This is a livestock farming area, so you will have to open and close every gate you come across. We will enjoy a beautiful landscape and great silence until the next milestone next to the local Castilblanco road. From here, the path runs parallel to the asphalt.

Castilblanco welcomes us with a monument dedicated to Cervantes, who set one of his exemplary novels, ‘Las dos doncellas’, in this town. In the municipality, 12 km away, is the hermitage of San Benito, patron saint of Europe and of the town, where a popular pilgrimage is held every year. Castilblanco is located at the gates of the Sierra Norte de Sevilla Natural Park, which is why a large part of its economy is based on livestock, beekeeping and farming in the pastures.
