STAGE: Sevilla - Guillena

  • DISTANCE: 22,49 km
  • VILLAGES: 4
  • HOSTING: 8

The Silver Route begins at the door of the Assumption of the Cathedral of Seville, the largest Gothic temple in Christendom. There we say goodbye to Santiago Peregrino (Saint James the Pilgrim) inserted in one of its archivolts. Our first steps are an urban tour of this beautiful city: Avenida de la Constitución, and the streets of Garcia de Vinuesa, Jimios, Zaragoza, Reyes Católicos, Puente de Triana, San Jorge and Castilla. Once past the church of El Cachorro, where the Cristo del Camino is venerated, Seville bids us farewell with a large Jacobean mural and the milestone of the 1,000th kilometre, the last of the adventure that now begins.

We cross the Guadalquivir over the old railway bridge to continue straight on to Camas, or turn right along the riverbank to Santiponce. In the first case, we drive through the centre of Camas, passing the town hall and the parish church, until we cross an industrial estate on the outskirts.

Santiponce is announced by the tower of the monastery of San Isidoro del Campo. In its main street, the old road to Mérida, we will find bates and shops, until we reach the archaeological site of Italica. This was an important Roman colony founded in 206 BC, the cradle of emperors and one of the great cities of the province of Baetica.

We recommend a stroll around its amphitheatre, aqueduct, houses and baths. On returning to the path, a long straight road will take us through wheat and olive groves to Guillena.
