Camino Sanabrés desde Granja de Moreruela

STAGE 15 Ponte Ulla - Santiago de Compostela

  • DISTANCE: 21,09 km
  • VILLAGES: 9
  • HOSTING: 0

We will leave Puente Ulla next to the road, then walk along forest paths to the foot of Pico Sacro, where legend has it that Queen Lupa's oxen were located, and from where ancient pilgrims could see the towers of Santiago Cathedral. A little further on, we come to the fountain, chapel and hostel of Santiaguiño, where the story of Queen Lupa and her wild oxen is written in stone. This place was also used for personal hygiene before reaching the long-awaited destination of the holy tomb. Lesteo and then Susana, where we can find shops and bars, herald our arrival in the streets on the outskirts of Compostela. The chapel of Santa Lucia, Piñeiro and Angrois, and finally the Camino Real, lead us to Santiago.

With our feet on the Roman road, we descend to the River Sar, on whose banks stands the Romanesque collegiate church of Santa María del Sar with its large buttresses. We climb up the streets of Sar, Do Castro de Ouro, Do Patio de Madres, and Fuente de Santo Antonio to the Mazarelos gate, the only remaining part of the old city wall.

After several hundred kilometres from south to north, along roads, highways and paths, the Cathedral of Santiago awaits us so that we can embrace the saint and fulfil what until now was only a promise.
