Camino Sanabrés desde Granja de Moreruela
Close to Granja de Moreruela, the ruins of the monastery of Santa María de Moreruela survive, the oldest monastery of the Cistercian order in Spain, which until 1162 bore the name of Santiago de Moirerola. In Tábara there was a Mozarabic monastery dedicated to San Salvador, which housed a famous scriptorium. Santa Marta de Tera also had a monastic origin, that of Santa Marta de Riba de Tera, of which only the church remains, which houses on its southern façade a sculpture of the Apostle St. James with the attributes of the pilgrim, a true icon of the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.
In Rionegro del Puente is the sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de la Carballeda, of legendary origin, where the Brotherhood of the Falifos is located, with more than seven centuries of dedication to the Camino and pilgrims. Puebla de Sanabria, Requejo and Lubián with the sanctuary of La Tuiza, where the Galician reapers placed themselves under the protection of Our Lady. In Galicia, Verín and Ourense, ideal for enjoying its rich gastronomy and its medicinal thermal waters. The pilgrim will continue to Santiago along the same path followed by thousands of pilgrims who came from the south of the peninsula to venerate the remains of St. James the Greater.
¡Buen camino!
