Modern infrastructures will be our visual reference to reach Mombuey, almost ten kilometres away, following a path parallel to the right of the N-525 road, with the Sierra de la Cabrera mountain range to the north.
Mombuey, which can be considered the capital of the Carballeda region, has all the services. It preserves its church, dedicated to Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, and its 13th century tower-fortress, related to the Order of the Temple.
The route continues along the right-hand side of the main road, soon turning left to cross the Rías Bajas dual carriageway and the high-speed railway line to reach Valdemerilla, continuing along a forest track to Cernadilla. A little less than two kilometres away is San Salvador de Palazuelo, where from the exterior staircase of its church tower you can enjoy beautiful views over the reservoir, and Entrepeñas, all of them small villages, located in an admirable natural setting and a road dotted with small hermitages, but with very few inhabitants and hardly any services.
Leaving Entrepeñas the path turns sharply to the right, towards the north, to cross the track and the road again, arriving, after walking a couple of kilometres, at Asturianos, which reminds us of the medieval repopulation with people from that region.
