Camino Sanabrés desde Granja de Moreruela

STAGE 05 Asturianos - Requejo de Sanabria

  • DISTANCE: 27,20 km
  • VILLAGES: 6
  • HOSTING: 0

We leave Asturianos by walking a short distance along the hard shoulder of the N-525, which we leave on the right, following the path that runs parallel to it and leads to Palacios de Sanabria.

Through wooded areas we reach Remesal; a little further on, on the other side of the dual carriageway is the small village of Otero de Sanabria, where its parish church houses some extraordinary paintings that embellish its walls and ceiling. This is also the site of the Sanctuary of the Virgen de los Remedios, patron saint of the Sanabria region.

After passing through the village of Triufé, which conserves a rich legacy of popular architecture and the ruins of an old pilgrims' hospital, we reach Puebla de Sanabria. It stands on a hill overlooking the River Tera, which we cross to start the climb to the monumental area of the town, where its 15th century castle stands out; next to it was a pilgrims' hospital.

The path follows the banks of the Castro river. The natural surroundings, among chestnut and oak trees, make the walk a pleasant stroll. We pass in front of the solitary church of Santiago Apóstol de Terroso, arriving a little further on at the village, with its modern transept. We cross the A-52 motorway again to avoid the national road, arriving at Requejo, a gateway to nearby Galicia, with its stone houses and balconies with slate roofs.
