Vía Augusta desde Cádiz

The Pilgrims' Way of St James, known as the “Via Augusta”, starts in the city of Cadiz - its kilometre zero - and heads through the Bay of Cadiz towards San Fernando and Puerto Real to El Puerto de Santa María and Jerez, in the province of Cadiz. It then enters the province of Seville via El Cuervo de Sevilla, Lebrija, Las Cabezas de San Juan, Utrera and Alcalá de Guadaíra, to finally reach the city of the River Betis and its Cathedral, where it ends and links up with the Vía de la Plata. The total distance is 190 km.

You will walk along paths steeped in history that were used by Romans, Visigoths, Arabs and Castilians to cross the peninsular geography, starting from Gades, the westernmost and furthest point of the Roman Empire, the Non Plus Ultra.

A road that was later converted into royal roads and national highways, whose layout is still in full force and effect thanks to the wise engineering of its Roman builders. It is said that the Greeks were architects and the Romans engineers, and they left us magnificent roads, such as the Via Augusta or the Via de la Plata.

¡Buen camino!
