Requejo, the first village in Galicia, as D. Bernardo José de Aldrete wrote in his diary in 1612. This stage is one of the most demanding on this route; the ascent to the Padornelo pass (1329 m and 360 m of vertical drop) can be tackled by two routes: the traditional path, next to the river, impracticable in the rainy season, which leads to railway tunnel 19 where, taking advantage of the infrastructure created during the works on the High Speed Line, the route climbs up to link up with a primitive road that is no longer in use and crown the pass, or walking some five kilometres along the national road to link up with the old road.
The ascent offers spectacular views of the Alta Sanabria, starting the descent passing by the Pilgrim's Cross to reach the village of Padornelo. We leave the village walking along the hard shoulder of the N-525 for two kilometres, turning off to the right and taking a local road to Aciberos, a small village located on a hillside, with interesting popular architecture.
The road, once altered by building work, runs between oak trees and heather. We reach a railway viaduct, which we cross, walking halfway up the hillside, with the river Pedro on our left and with our final destination of the stage in sight: Lubián, a welcoming village with a rich cultural landscape.
