STAGE: Baena - Castro del Río
We leave Baena on the road from Córdoba to Granada CO-284, after crossing the Salobreja stream, we continue along the road, leaving behind a turn-off to the right, and then turning off to the right, taking the Camino de Salobreja. We cross the Hoya de la Mantequilla where we cross the stream of Don Gonzalo, going up and then down the Cuerda de Pedro Baeza. At the Camino del Atayuelo, perpendicular to the route we have taken, we turn left to rejoin the road and continue along it until we reach the river Guadajoz, at the Venta de Maturra, at which point we take the CP-325 road on our left.
Never leaving the road, we enter Castro del Río amidst fertile orchards. The town spreads out meekly on the banks of the Guadajoz. Its district of La Villa, where the walls, first Roman and later Muslim, tell us of the excellent strategic position that the town occupied. The Church of La Asunción (15th century) with its fortified tower is very interesting, as are the churches of Madre de Dios and Jesús Nazareno. In Colegio Street is the Municipal Hostel.
