Ready to tackle the 21.2 km of this stage, a beautiful oak grove welcomes us at the exit of As Vendas da Barreira. We leave the main roads behind and pass through small villages such as Trasestrada and San Pedro de Trasverea. Among them is the town of Sarreaus, where the path is curiously named ‘Camiño da Misa’ (Mass Path).
Meadows bordered by soutos (chestnut forests) and carballeiras (oak forests) take us to Mirós. We climb towards Fumaces, an ancient village sheltered by the mountains, and we are now approaching Verín. The silhouette of the magnificent Monterrei Castle appears every so often in the landscape.
Verín, the end of the stage, offers a wide range of accommodation and restaurants, notably its pilgrims' hostel, which shares its building with the municipal tourist office and an exhibition hall.
Here, we must not miss a visit to the mineral water springs of ‘Sousas’ and ‘Cabreiroá’ and, of course, drink their waters.
And if it is carnival season, don't miss Entroido, which is celebrated with tradition and passion, as well as watching the cigarróns parade and run in their costumes.
