Printing...Today we travel to the vast plain of A Limia. Both areas are separated by a small mountain range that we cross via the As Estibadas pass. The terrain is favourable as we travel 21.2 km through the Támega and Limia river valleys, which flow into Portugal.
In the area of the municipality of Monterrei, the D.O. Monterrei vineyards extend, producing exquisite wines that we can pair with potatoes from the A Limia region.
In terms of historical and artistic heritage, we highlight:
- Monterrei Castle, one of the largest fortresses in Galicia. The castle itself has a parade ground, a 22-metre-high keep, the Tower of the Ladies and the Palace of the Counts. Part of the building is a Parador Nacional hotel.
- The pre-Romanesque church of Santa María de Mixós, a jewel of the region that stands out for its architecture. The section has accommodation and restaurants, notably the Viladerrei pilgrims' hostel, which is located at the end of the route in the municipality of Trasmiras.
