Today we move to the extensive plain of "A Limia." Both spaces are separated by a small mountain range that we overcome by the height of "As Estibadas." The terrain is favorable as we travel the 21.2 km through the valley of the Támega river and through the valley of the Limia river, which flow into Portugal.
In the area of the Monterrei town hall, the D.O. Monterrei vineyards extend, offering exquisite wines that we can combine with the potatoes from the A Limia region.
Regarding historical and artistic heritage, we highlight:
- The castle of Monterrei, one of the largest fortresses in Galicia. The castle itself has a parade ground, a 22-meter-high keep, the Ladies' Tower, and the Counts' palace. Part of the building is a Parador Nacional (state-run hotel).
- The pre-Romanesque church of Santa María de Mixós, a jewel of the region that stands out for its architecture. The section offers accommodation and catering, highlighting the Viladerrei pilgrims' hostel, which is located at the end of the route in the municipality of Trasmiras.
