STAGE: Almadén de la Plata - El Real de la Jara
A short and beautiful stage awaits the pilgrims today. The departure from Almadén de la Plata is along the path that leads to the bullring. In a few steps we enter, between rockroses and holm oaks, into the depths of the dehesa. Big game, deer, roe deer and wild boar, together with rabbits, partridges and all kinds of birds, can be observed by the walker if he is attentive and silent.
Near the end, we will find a new milestone in memory of the man who walked and signposted the route, with the help of institutions and founded the Association of Friends of the Pilgrims' Route to Santiago de Compostela in Seville. The memory of José Luis Salvador is present along this route, so pilgrims should pay him the homage he deserves. After the milestone, we arrive at El Real de la Jara, and the municipal pilgrims' hostel, in the first house.
The town owes its name to the Camino Real which was the route of communication between Andalusia and Extremadura. It is a white village, like all those in the Sierra Norte, in whose municipal area there is a large game reserve. Its church of Mudejar origin and its 12th century castle are the highlights of the town's architecture. A visit to the taxidermy museum is recommended.
