STAGE: Cañaveral - Galisteo
Not before visiting the hermitages of San Roque and Cristo del Humilladero, we leave Cañaveral and from the hermitage of San Cristóbal, along a steep path, we climb up to the Castaños pass.
Not far from the road is the monastery of Palancar, the smallest in the world, where St. Pedro de Alcántara, patron saint of the diocese of Coria - Cáceres, prayed.
After a few kilometres, we come to the road to Holguera. One kilometre further on we come to
Grimaldo, with its tumbledown tower that once served as a defence for the Extremadura border line. Here, pilgrims can find bed and food, and divide this long stage for their comfort.
Following the path, and after the remains of the Roman road, we come to the road to Riolobos, along which we will walk for almost a kilometre, and then continue along farm tracks and dirt tracks to Galisteo, with its wall of boulders up to 3 m wide and 11 m high. Through its unique streets we will discover the beaked keep, the church with its bell tower crowning the Almohad wall, and its Mudejar apse; and all the necessary services for the pilgrim.
