Camino Mozárabe desde Almería

STAGE 07 Guadix - La Peza

  • DISTANCE: 22,29 km
  • VILLAGES: 5
  • HOSTING: 9

We leave Guadix from the cathedral square taking the Calle Santa María del Buen Aire where Santiago himself bids farewell to the pilgrim, one of the most beautiful gates of the whole. Through a network of streets full of history, such as the Cascamorras, and beautiful temples, we leave the town centre behind us and take a track, Camino de Raya Hita, which takes us to Purullena. This first stretch of 7.5 km to Purullena is of spectacular beauty due to the landscape of the Cárcavas and above all its passage through the gorge. When we reach Purullena we pass the Cueva Museo de la Inmaculada and we can stamp our credentials. We follow a small road through olive groves that shows us the way to El Marchal, a majestic municipality declared a natural monument for its Cárcavas. Here we can rest in the pilgrims' hostel excavated in a cave or if we decide to continue we can refresh ourselves in the pilgrims' rest area, a few metres further on. The exit continues towards the Baños de Graena famous for its spa and from there we continue towards La Peza on an old road with little traffic and very scenic. In La Peza we can rest in the municipal pilgrims' hostel.
