STAGE: La Calzada de Béjar - Fuenterroble de Salvatierra

  • DISTANCE: 19,73 km
  • VILLAGES: 4
  • HOSTING: 14

You cannot leave La Calzada de Béjar without first drinking water from its rich spring. The path runs through lands of chestnut, oak and ash trees, winding through some recovered milestones, to Valverde de la Casa.
It is a small village surrounded by five stone crosses, whose patron saint is Santiago, which we will find in its church with its curious belfry.

Shortly after, we reach Valdelacasa, a small village on a hill, which has some services. Further on, once again along the recovered road, we reach Fuenterroble de Salvatierra.

In this town, we can enjoy its restored church-fortress, and next to it, a small archaeological garden, with several tombs, explanatory panels and a reproduction of the construction of the road. But, above all, in Fuenterroble de Salvatierra, where nobody is a stranger as this is one of the most hospitable villages on the Silver Route, we will enjoy the comforting friendliness of its people.

On our route we have shared the road and pastures with large herds of cattle, which are the main economic activity in most of the rural areas of the province of Salamanca, and in particular this province currently has the largest herd of cattle in the whole of Spain.
