STAGE: Hinojosa del Duque - Monterrubio de la Serena

  • DISTANCE: 34,07 km
  • VILLAGES: 2
  • HOSTING: 2

We leave Hinojosa passing the Convent of the Conceptionists until we reach a narrow ring road. After a short stretch along this road, we leave it to take a dirt track on the right that will take us to the road that leads to the old Mármol railway station.

At kilometre 2, we leave it and turn right onto a path towards the Las Viñas stream and continue on to the Cohete stream. Almost 2 kilometres from this stream we reach a narrow road which, on the right, heads towards Belalcázar, a village we have been seeing in the distance. Continuing straight on, we now walk for 5 km through holm oak groves and crops.

After reaching another narrow road with hardly any traffic, cross it to continue through holm oak pastures. After 3 km you reach the railway line to Almorchón. Continuing straight on, we cross next to an old railway halt and after 2 km we reach the road from Belalcázar to Monterrubio.

Cross the road and continue along the path, passing next to the old Zújar railway station and crossing the river by a natural ford.
Further on we reach a simple calvary with a granite altar painted white. Surrounded by the meadow, the meander of the River Zújar at our feet and in the background, on a rise, the hermitage of the Virgen de Alcantarilla, to which we head downhill.

We leave the road that joins the Ermita de Alcantarilla with Monterrubio de la Serena, following an itinerary that will take us to the border of the Autonomous Communities of Extremadura and Andalusia, to turn left in the province of Badajoz and between holm oak and olive groves we reach an asphalted track that we take to the left with the town of Monterrubio de la Serena already on our horizon.
