STAGE: Monesterio - Fuente de Cantos
At the end of the long village, following the road, we come to the football pitch, where we return to the path next to the Dehesa stream, to walk between dry stone walls, which we will frequently see as we pass through the lands of Extremadura and Castile. Soon we can make out the outline of Fuente de Cantos, but we should not anticipate our arrival, as there are still several hours of walking ahead of us. Sometimes a path, sometimes a trail, we leave this beautiful wooded stretch through the mountains to enter agricultural areas until we reach our destination.
Fuente de Cantos offers all kinds of services to the pilgrim. As well as a recommendable walk in which to discover the birthplace of Zurbarán, remembered in his house museum; the beautiful square next to the church of the Virgen de la Granada, with its Baroque altarpieces; the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Hermosa, with its delicate Gothic carving, or the old ‘Fabrica’, now converted into a tourist centre that maintains all the machinery of the old industrial work typical of these lands.
