STAGE: San Pedro de Rozados - Salamanca
On leaving San Pedro de Rozados, the road is hidden under the road, so we will head towards Morille, a small village with some services and the last one before reaching Salamanca.
On today's stage you will pass through the Teso de Aldeatejeda, one of the most important places in the War of Independence, which lasted from 1808 to 1814. The battle of Los Arapiles or Salamanca, fought on 22 July 1812, was one of its most important episodes, as it resulted in the absolute defeat of the French army under the command of Marshal Marmont.
When you see the towers of Salamanca's cathedrals, you will begin to delve into the history of Spain's oldest university city. We will finally enter the city by the Roman bridge over the Tormes River, crossing the Rúa Mayor, Calle Libreros (where the university is located, with its universally known Plateresque façade, and its renowned library with more than 3,000 manuscripts and incunabula), the Casa de las Conchas, the Plaza Mayor (central point of the city's life), and its two cathedrals, the new and the old, Romanesque and Gothic united in a singular space.
The city of Salamanca offers all its visitors the traditional hospitality of its people and students. It is an obligatory stop-off and stop-over city.
