STAGE: Villanueva de Algaidas - Cuevas Bajas

  • DISTANCE: 9,92 km
  • VILLAGES: 5
  • HOSTING: 2

Leaving the hostel, continue along Calle Granada until the end of the village, where you turn left onto the road to Cuevas Bajas. From here, after 100 metres, take a marked path on the right. This route takes you past the old Franciscan convent of Nuestra Señora de la Consolación (16th century) and the Mozarabic hermitages (9th-10th century), the only ones from this period along which the path of this name passes.

After crossing the medieval bridge over the Bebedero stream, the route climbs for 1 km until it reaches the hamlet of La Atalaya.

Continue uphill for another two kilometres and after another two kilometres of descent, you pass a viewpoint with magnificent views of the provinces of Seville, Cordoba and Malaga. Further down is the hamlet of El Cedrón, a settlement of Jewish origin, where the recently restored communal oven is still preserved. Before reaching the municipality, we pass through the hamlet of La Moheda, in this case, a settlement of Moorish origin, where an old public fountain is preserved next to the road.

We continue two more kilometres downhill and enter Cuevas Bajas. The pilgrims' hostel is located in Calle de la Cruz.
